St Peter’s Choir
There is a long-standing choral tradition at St Peters, developed by men such as Vincent Trivett (Organist 1909-1947) and Kendrick Partington (Organist 1957-1994). In these days where church choirs are far and few between, we are proud to maintain a good choral tradition in a wide range of services including Matins, Evensong, Eucharist and Compline, as well as regular visits to cathedrals and other churches both in the UK and abroad.

The choir at St Peter’s is an amateur voluntary group that produces what the Nottingham Evening Post has termed an “outstanding standard of music-making”, thanks to the commitment of its members, who comprise a number of adult singers, students and staff of both universities, and children from various local schools. The choir enjoys a close relationship with both the Nottingham Bluecoat School and the Nottingham Emmanuel School, and our junior choristers receive an invaluable musical education through their participation in the choir.
As well as singing at St Peter’s and All Saints’ throughout the year, the choir often give concerts and sing services in churches and cathedrals across the UK. The first such visit was to Lichfield Cathedral during Easter Week 1969 (a visit that was repeated 40 years later, on Low Sunday 2009). There is also a tour each summer and in recent years the choir has been to France, Belgium and Ireland. In August 2008, the choir was given the great honour of being invited to sing for three days at Westminster Abbey.
All the music sung during each term is presented in the parish music list, copies of which can be downloaded from this page. The musical life of St Peter’s is also considerably enriched by the thrice-annual Coffee Break Concerts, details of which can be found on this page.
If you are interested in joining the choir, you might like to read this information sheet. To arrange an audition, please contact the Director of Music (details below).

Sub-Organist: Dr Michael Leuty
Mike was a chorister at a London church from the age of 7 and at 14 he was appointed organist of the small church at Kirk Hallam. This was announced in the Ilkeston Advertiser as “Beatles fan, 14 is new church organist”. He followed his interest in rock music at university where he played keyboards in a “pub rock” band, but when he started work as a GP in Nottingham in 1985 he returned to church music and joined the choir of St Peter’s. He gradually moved from the choir stalls to the organ bench and was appointed Deputy Organist in 1999. He has learned a lot from successive Directors of Music and loves accompanying the choir, but has been advised not to give up the day job.
