Fairtrade
30 years of Fairtrade
Traidcraft’s mission is to fight poverty through trade, practising and promoting approaches to trade that help poor people in developing countries to transform their lives. Established in 1979 as a Christian response to poverty, they combine a trading company and a development charity which build lasting relationships with producers, support people to trade out of poverty and work towards trade justice.
Our parish has been working as a Fairtrade Organisation for many years, and this can be seen most effectively through the work of our Traidcraft Shop. Staffed by volunteers, the shop (which is based in the Parish Centre, next to St Peter’s) offers a large range of goods including:
- Jewellery
- Gifts
- Cards
- Confectionary
- Tea, Coffee & Drinking Chocolate
In 2009, Traidcraft’s 30th Birthday year, please support the work that they do by visiting the shop, which is open Monday—Friday (subject to the availability of volunteers), 10.30am-2pm.
As a parish, let us share their vision of a world free from poverty where trade is just and people and communities can flourish. Many thanks are due to all the volunteers, past and present, who have given time and energy to ensuring that Fairtrade continues to be a central part of our parish’s ministry.
