Overseas

Overseas Committee

In 2007 we raised £5,458 and donated £5,070 (we always keep a reserve for emergency appeals and to pump prime fundraising events but we do not like to have money lying idle in the bank account).

Our major fund raiser is always the Christmas Saturday Coffee Room opening which raised more than £3,600 last year. Our new supporters from St Mary’s who ran the Coffee Room on two additional Saturdays helped to boost this income.

The summer musical event was blighted by a rainy evening but Beth & Tony Mitchell were kind enough to welcome people with wet feet into their home. Andy, James & Sam Thomas played guitars and drums for as long as they could in the garden. Everyone was moved by Alexander McLean’s commitment to his work in African Prisons - £1,020 was raised that evening for his work.

Other causes we have supported are:

  • The international Nepal fellowship (gynaecological theatre camps)
  • ICFEM (Kenya school, health centre, community support)
  • Médecins Sans Frontières (Darfur, the only charity still working there)
  • Choir member working in Namibia on school project
  • Hope & Homes (building ‘families’ for bereaved children)
  • Christian Aid (general funds)
  • Bangladesh (the disaster appeal)

Many thanks to all who have supported us by attending events, donating, banking, volunteering for the Coffee Room etc. We couldn’t raise more than £5,000 a year without you.
