Biography

Mike was a chorister at a London church from the age of 7 and at 14 he was appointed organist of the small church at Kirk Hallam. This was announced in the Ilkeston Advertiser as “Beatles fan, 14 is new church organist”. He followed his interest in rock music at university where he played keyboards in a “pub rock” band, but when he started work as a GP in Nottingham in 1985 he returned to church music and joined the choir of St Peter’s. He gradually moved from the choir stalls to the organ bench and was appointed Deputy Organist in 1999. He has learned a lot from successive Directors of Music and loves accompanying the choir, but has been advised not to give up the day job.

Hear Mike playing Dupré’s Placare Christe servulis on the organ of Holy Cross Cathedral, Geraldton, Western Australia.
