Following a degree in economics, Christopher spent five years working in HM Treasury, London, in the early 1980s. After completing a degree in theology and being ordained in 1987, he returned to London to serve for ten years in inner city parishes in Camberwell and Forest Hill.
In 1996 he moved to Derbyshire to become vicar of Parwich, Alsop en le Dale, Fenny Bentley, Thorpe and Tissington, and also became Rural Dean of Ashbourne. He was also World Development Adviser for Derby Diocese, and Chairman of the Derbyshire Churches North India Partnership.
Christopher was appointed priest in charge of the parish of All Saints, St Mary and St Peter in February 2009. Within the wider diocese, he is also chairman of the Rainbow Project for racial justice and diversity, which has a particular role in supporting asylum seekers.
