Light Night at St Mary’s Church – Friday 5th February 2016

St Mary’s buzzed with activity for the best part of two days ahead of Light Night, then, between 5 and 10 pm, 5,000 people came to visit. The Choir sang ethereal music and the Friends provided copious refreshments. There were art displays and ‘Meet the Maker’ tables showcasing superb creative work. For children, the hands-on make-a-lantern area proved exceptionally popular. The Thurland tomb glowed with hundreds of night lights: ‘a memory, a wish, a prayer’.

Many visitors – both first time and those returning from previous years – commented on the warmth of welcome and focus on values other than the commercial. Through their generosity we raised nearly £1,160 for Emmanuel House and a further good sum for the Friends.

A very special thank you to Daniel, Holly, Ed, John and Duncan for their excellent planning, meticulous attention to details and sheer hard work, supported by over twenty organisers and volunteers from all three churches.
