30th September sees the publication of a new book jointly written by Archbishop Rowan Williams and The Guardian's Economics Editor, Larry Elliott. (A 6 minute introductory video by Rowan Williams can be seen on Amazon.co.uk). At the next in the series of City Debates (Tuesday 14th October) we will welcome Larry Elliott as our guest speaker. The book will be on sale for £12, and Larry will be signing copies. The debate will take place at St Peter's Church at 6.30pm, with coffee available from 6pm. Entrance is free, and all are welcome to attend.

The 50th Series of Coffee Break Concerts at St Peter's Church will run on Saturday mornings throughout October. The Coffee Room will be open each Saturday, 10.30am-2pm, with a wide selection of drinks, cakes, sandwiches and light lunches. Each concert begins at 11am, with coffee and biscuits served from 10.15am. Admission is through donation to the organ appeal.

Talk on Autism

On Tuesday 12th October, at 6.30pm at St Peter's, there will be a free lecture entitled "Autism help - New Tools to Help Your Child Now". Aimed at parents or carers of children with the condition, the guest speaker, Mr Raun K. Kaufman (international Autism lecturer) will discuss key strategies used at the Autism Treatment Centre of America, who are hosting the event. His lecture will focus on alternatives for parents as well as his own history of Autism. To register for your free lecture and to receive your free e-ticket please visit the website.

Visitors and members of the congregation will notice that the newly restored eighteenth century front pipes from the North Aisle case have now been reinstated. Installation of the new organ will continue during the latter half of October - watch out in particular for the new console and the new Choir organ case in the chancel balcony! Fundraising continues as the appeal is still some £10,000 from its target.

Regular members of the Tuesday 1.15pm lunchtime congregation at St Peter's have recently participated in a small questionnaire about the lunchtime services. Different types of services have been trialed over the last year, with a mixed response. The plan now is to have a communion service each week, except the fourth Tuesday of each month, which will be a reflective service with poetry and music.

Nottingham Workplace Chaplaincy cohosted a post-work reception with Freeth Cartwright's at their offices on 22nd September. Business leaders were encouraged to come and meet the new diocesan bishop, Bishop Paul, informally over drinks and nibbles. They were then encouraged to put their thoughts and questions to the bishop about Nottingham and its commercial future.

Heritage Open Days

The choir of St Peter's, along with many supporters, enjoyed a fantastic couple of days in York on 31st May and 1st June. York Minster which was last visited by the St Peter's Choir in 1991, provided a warm welcome, and an opportunity to sing some wonderful music in a beautiful building. Repertoire included Howells "St Paul's" Service, Leighton Responses, and Morley's First Service.
